OUR HISTORY

Established in 1988 with great passion and enthusiasm for music and sound by Charles Loram, who remained a member until his passing in 2015.

 

SOUND SYSTEMS operated from the beginning as an Audio Visual and Events company, with a commitment to Service and the development of Technical skills in the Lowveld.

 

The Company grew in leaps and bounds into a Party Supplier to a respected Technical Supplier to such initiatives as Technical advisor to the Municipality at the time of the building of our Nelspruit Civic Theatre to Supplier to the Provincial Mbombela Stadium being the Property Maintenance on In-house Communication Systems and Entertainment Events for up to 40,000 pax outdoor events as well as Technical support on major International Summits, Conferences, National Award ceremonies and National Corporate Ceremonies and Celebrations.

 

Soon décor, cater hire and tents were added to our in-house offerings in the new Division of the company, FUNCTION DESIGN, a ‘One-Stop Bespoke Event Solution', giving rise to an entire Coordination and Design Division which has since become the preferred supplier to major Event Coordinators, International Weddings, Corporate Launches and Community Events.

 

From inception the company became a class leader with innovation, and cutting edge technology and remain the only truly "One Stop Shop" on the Eastern extremity of South Africa, some 400 km from Johannesburg.


SOUND SYSTEMS
was the first company to have "Big Screen" projection. We introduced Karaoke to Eastern Mpumalanga and were the first disco to offer CDs as opposed to vinyl records.

 

SOUND SYSTEMS was the first local sound company that provided stages, concert sound, professional lighting, three-phase power supply and event management and management of musicians and DJs. Furthermore Sound Systems was the first company to provide a full conferencing system and facilities for simultaneous interpretation.

 

In an area where no similar company had previously operated, the company established the market and set standards throughout the Lowveld for professional services in the area of sound and audio-visual.


In its 29-year history, Sound Systems has built a multi-faceted company servicing business, political, community, church and educational needs.


Charles Loram, as a musician and sound engineer, was regularly involved with schools, churches and young promising musicians in his pursuit of excellence. He conducted seminars in Sound Engineering for churches and musicians.

 

SOUND SYSTEMS & FUNCTION DESIGN became the one-stop service, which would save our clients costs in the area of labour and transport.


SOUND SYSTEMS & FUNCTION DESIGN have been involved with most of the top government, major corporate events and community functions in the Province.

 

Today SOUND SYSTEMS & FUNCTION DESIGN continue to provide the same level of commitment to quality product, service and excellence as when we first opened our doors in the Lowveld. From small beginnings we have and beyond being invited to offer our services as far as Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mauritius, to name a few. We have trained up many Sound and Décor Technicians who themselves have gone on to run their own companies as entrepreneurs. We continue to find new, creative and innovative means to support the local Event and Meetings Industry as well as having earned the right to be called a leading player in the industry in Mpumalanga.

 

No Function is too big or too small. We bring to each event almost 3 decades of experience and expertise. Our staff are constantly exposed to all the latest trends and developments in the industry by means of industry related conferences, trade exhibitions and practical skills transfer. We have done this by training from scratch local technicians interested in the field of sound and event coordination.

 

CONFERENCING

This includes "in-house" AV equipment and all aspects of Technical Assistance. In addition to being a supplier, we are also Professional Conference Organizers.
